Remember the fake currency/coupons you used to make to give as gifts when you were low on cash – One coupon good for one hug or one kitchen cleaning. Well, some communities find themselves trying out various versions of this concept. They are printing local currency that can only be used within their locality. This would help a larger portion of the money spent to stay within their own community. In the Traverse City, Michigan region they have Bay Bucks that are dollar for dollar matches for Federal dollars. Click here to read more.. »

JACK BLANKENSHIP…SOME REAL FACE TIME
Having been raised back in the days when the stands at sporting events were filled with hundreds of foam fingers on a good day, this does qualify as a different take on the “let’s distract the other team” idea. Giant pictures of celebrities or team fan favorites have graced the stands over the years, but Jack Blankenship took it one step further and landed himself on the Today Show. DOOGLING???
Google, perhaps arguably one of the most creative forces on earth, started giving users a little something extra beginning in 1998. Larry and Sergey, cofounders of Google took the Google logo and simply added a stick figure in the back of the letter “O” to their logo. This was meant to tell users they were “out of office”. The users reacted very positively to this idea and the Google Doodle was born! Since then there have been hundreds of “doodle alterations” to the Google logo. These revisions celebrate different holidays and special days. I couldn’t show one of their Doodles because of copyright laws, but here is a link to a page of them: http://www.google.com/logos/index.html They also hold a contest once a year. This year students, parents, teachers, and members of certain boys and girls clubs were allowed to submit a doodle reflecting, “What I would like to do someday…”.
