A FEW LINES FOR TEACHER APPRECIATION DAY 2012

Posted in Happenings

On this Teacher Appreciation Day 2012,  just as the old bumper sticker says, “If you can read this, thank a teacher”.  Here are a few quotes about the wonderfully underrated profession of teaching.

If a doctor, lawyer, or dentist had 40 people in his office at one time, all of whom had different needs, and some of whom didn’t want to be there and were causing trouble, and the doctor, lawyer, or dentist, without assistance, had to treat them all with professional excellence for nine months, then he might have some conception of the classroom teacher’s job.”  ~Donald Quinn

“A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.”  ~Henry Adams

Presenting a little different perspective on this Teacher Appreciation Day, here are two quotes written by teachers.

“If you promise not to believe everything your child says happens at school, I’ll promise not to believe everything he says happens at home.”  ~Anonymous Teacher

“The only reason I always try to meet and know the parents better is because it helps me to forgive their children.”  ~Louis Johannot

THANK YOU TO TEACHERS EVERYWHERE!

A MUTE BUTTON FOR NEW YORK CITY?

Posted in Happenings

Sitting in Prospect Park in Brooklyn, New York and taking in all the lively sounds; saxophone playing, rapping dancers, dogs barking and even couples arguing. Suddenly one man inconspicuously puts on his sunglasses and 23 man and women and two dogs all go silent. This happens several times. “The Mute Button” is one of the over 100 missions from the New York City group Improv Everywhere.

NATIONAL RELAXATION DAY – AUGUST 15TH

Posted in Happenings

Kick back and enjoy National Relaxation Day on August 15th.  Although for a holiday to become a true national holiday it takes an act of Congress (and we know what THAT entails), it is one of the many, many self-proclaimed holidays that already exist. Click here to read more.. »

DATING SOME REAL DOGS

Check out my profile!!!

Picture heading to a bar for a “Speed Dating” event and when you get there some of the attendees you will be meeting are busy getting to know each other by sniffing rear ends. Sounds a little kinky, but it is an idea that almost always has a love at first sight ending. Click here to read more.. »

RICK AND ROLL

Posted in Happenings

There was a popular bipartisan movement in the Oregon state legislature, but it wasn’t what one would expect.  A utube video starring about a dozen Oregon legislators giving speeches on pending legislation hit the internet on April Fools Day.    Each speech contained a line from Rick Astley’s 1980’s hit, “Never Gonna Give You Up”.  This idea was based on the internet prank called “Rick Rolling” where readers were tricked into clicking on a link that takes them to the Rick Astley performance of “Never Gonna Give You Up”.  It was refreshing to watch members of both parties get something accomplished together and produce smiles at the same time.
