NEWPORT’S SOLAR POWERED COMPACTOR – MAKING A MOLEHILL OUT OF A MOUNTAIN

Posted in Eco

How’s this for going green?  Newport, Rhode Island, along with many other municipalities, has installed  Solar Powered Trash Compactors.  These closed receptacles cut down on odors and rodent problems while being able to hold up to five times the amount of trash that non-compacting units hold.   Once the trash has been compacted to its capacity  (using only solar power) a signal is sent out for the box to be emptied.  This green idea cuts down on the amount of labor needed and amount of fuel used by the city or establishment.     Let’s hope this idea is picking up!

THE TRUCK FARM…. and the plot thickens…….

Posted in Eco

Going on vacation but still need to water your vegetable garden?  NO PROBLEM!  Brooklyn film makers Ian Cheney and Curt Ellis certainly won’t have that problem!  They came up with an ingenious solution to the problem of “Where can we put our vegetable garden in Brooklyn, NY?”  The idea of a Truck Farm was born.  They have been featured on Planet Green showing off their old Dodge farm.  To see more, check out their movie, “Truck Farm-the Film”.   This is one unique solution for urban gardening!
